Restaurant La Chine

Restaurant La Chine: authentic Chinese cuisine
Right on the Markt in Maastricht, opposite the city hall, the Choy family opened the first Chinese restaurant in Maastricht in 1951. More than 60 years later, host Lily Choy is at the helm: ‘Inspired by the travel stories of my grandpa who sailed the oceans, my father came to Europe. That was before the war in 1939. Travelling via Hong Kong, Singapore and Marseille, he arrived in Rotterdam with the aim of working as a dishwasher in Amsterdam. He subsequently started a restaurant with a friend in Haarlem. Being enterprising and keen to learn, he finally settled in Maastricht in 1951 and opened La Chine. He deliberately chose a French name to do justice to the international location of Maastricht. I think it’s also a wink towards the strong reputation of French cuisine, which perfectly reflects our ambitions. In the meantime I joined my parents and now, thirty years on, we are still welcoming guests with pleasure every day.’
Chinese Cuisine with authentic specialities
International patrons praise La Chine for her famous Peking duck and savoury pancakes. Other specialities include Kung Pao Chicken, Woei Wo Yuk (pork fillet with lightly spiced Szechuan sauce), Chilli Chicken (deliciously crispy fried chicken strips with sweet chilli sauce) and Hot & Spicy Beef. With a view of the grand city hall of Maastricht and the cosy market, you will indulge in the dishes from this authentic Chinese kitchen.
China in your own backyard
In the summer you will of course be seated on the terrace. The sun on your face and the bustle of the market square make your dinner a special experience. And if there are no seats on the terrace? Then you can also take out your dishes and enjoy them in the comfort of your own home or garden. This way you experience China at home!
