Château St. Gerlach: gastronomic pampering at luxury country estate
In the parish of Houthem in the South-Limburg Geul valley you will find the twelfth-century monastery St. Gerlach. The country estate and castle, coach house and farm buildings today function as a luxurious villa where you will be pampered with gastronomical delights. On the French-oriented menu you will find ingredients from the estate itself as well as regional produce. The historical ambiance and homely atmosphere of this pearl of the ‘Oostwegel-Collection’ come to fruition in the various salons with original wall- and ceiling murals. In this classical and cosy ambiance you will enjoy delicious dishes, naturally with a matching wine selection.
Products straight from the country estate
‘This country house has plenty to offer its guests. And also us! In recent years, we have planted organic herb and vegetable gardens, as well as our own orchard and vineyard. The opportunity to work with many of our own ingredients is a real pleasure for a classical chef like myself. This is also reflected in our menu – traditional dishes with a contemporary twist prepared with high regard for the ingredients used. With meat or fish as the main ingredient, served with locally sourced and home-grown produce wherever possible. And we continue to expand what we have on offer. We never stop developing. Every day on our country estate is a celebration, for both our guests and for us,’ declares Otto Nijenhuis, chef de cuisine.
Leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind you and completely unwind. For a day, a weekend, or just for an evening. As soon as you enter the grounds of Château St. Gerlach, you are surrounded by an oasis of peace and freedom, with a touch of romance. All you have to do is simply succumb to it and, above all, enjoy the feeling of not having to do anything: this country house is the perfect place to feel like a guest of honour and let yourself be truly pampered. You are invited to visit to dine in style in our charming and homely restaurant in the former living room of Baron de Selys de Fanson, the last occupant of Château St. Gerlach, or stay the night in our luxury hotel. Or maybe you’re just looking for a bite to eat in our cosy bistro De Liège after a lovely brisk walk, want to relax at our spa, or enjoy a combination of any of these.
